George Jackson and Daniel Watkins have been best mates and musical collaborators since they met back in 2006 at the age of 16. During that time they have shared the stage both as session musicians in many bands and as part of their trio project One Up, Two Down. They are the back to back winners and first two recipients of the Australian Bluegrass Scholarship (2012/13), together they have a strong musical connection and a wealth of repertoire between them. Join them for some original and bluegrass songs, new and traditional tunes and bad jokes as they prepare to head overseas on a musical adventure for the best part of 2015 on a quest for inspiration, musical fellowship and who knows, maybe riches (but probably not)

Wilson released his debut EP ‘Lonely One’ in 2014, after winning first place at the Lismore Young Songwriters competition. A member of ‘The Button Collective’, he is a well seasoned performer having played at many festivals across Australia. This year Ben Wilson is recording a full length solo album of original songs to be released on Soul Arch Records. Ben will be joined by Jake Pember on double bass, also a member of the illustrious Button Collective.

Dear Orphans. Connecting with the simplicity of life, while laying bare the bones of the human condition, is what Dear Orphans and their music are all about. The band comprises singer-songwriters Nick Payne and Lyn Taylor, with Carlyn Chen (Fiddle) Paul Sun (Double Bass) and Jolyon Gray (Dobro), rounding out a unique mix of folk, bluegrass and americana.

    16

    Wednesday
    - 6pm -

    Bluegrass @ Yulli’s 6pm Wed 16 March

    Devil on the Rooftop

6pm Bluegrass Jam – BYO banjo, guitar, bass, mandolin, fiddle and join in or just sit and listen and enjoy the bluegrass session.

8pm Band  – ‘Devil on the Rooftop’ is combination of the talents of Jess Randall (The Crooked Fiddle Band), Morgan Haselden (Mimosa) and Elsen Price (Soloist).

Jess Randall entangles her classical background with a gut-wrenching no-holds-barred approach to traditional fiddling styles. Jess’ love of ‘faster than you can actually play’ Romanian fiddle style and appreciation of its parallelism with hard-driving bluegrass set her off on a quest to train-wreck the genres into something more than the sum of its parts, finally emerging with Devil on the Rooftop.

Jess is one of Australia’s premier Improvising violinists, with not only winning various competitions for her playing, but also founding the highly successful ‘Crooked Fiddle Band’. TCFB have performed as main acts at Australian Festivals ‘The National Folk Festival’ and ‘Woodford Folk Festival’, and tour Europe, including Germany and UK, annually.

Morgan Haselden founded ‘Mimosa’, a Modern Gypsy Duo, which has toured Australia and France. Morgan has studied under some of Australia’s best Classical Guitarists and Performs regularly as a Classical and Gypsy Performer.

Elsen Price has performed as a soloist at the Sydney Festival, Vivid Festival, Majors Creek Festival and Marrickville Festival. He has premiered new works by Elena Katz-Cherin, Andrew Batt-Rawden and Keyna Wilkins. He will make his international debut in 2016 performing at the Modern Tango Festival in Berlin.
